Mr. suryataga

Mataram, LombokInsider.com – Not many know Lalu Suryataga, a successful entrepreneur born in East Lombok who started his business from selling ice in his hometown, Tete Batu, East Lombok. Then Surya has been learning independently since he was in elementary school (SD). Even though his parents could afford it at the time, he didn’t want to depend on him.

“Once as I recall, my father bought a book with me,” Surya recalls.

He was an outstanding student in his class, from elementary to high school, and he even won one of the seven classes at that time. This achievement aims to get him a book prize so he doesn’t burden his parents.

“In the first semester, Cawu was said to be (Caturwulan), I won first place and got book four, Cawu second, I won first place, still got book four. Up to grade 2, I won first place and got book four. From elementary to high school, I have never won third place. As I recall. In fact, I was the overall champion of one of the seven classes at that time. I’m after the book so it doesn’t bother my parents,” he said.

The man who was born in Lekong Pituk, 1973 feels that Indonesia is superior in many ways, but does not have the skills to compete. This is due to the wrong mindset to work.

“In one year there are 364 days. 364 days we see the sun. And that’s a tremendous amount of energy that not everyone has. Many countries rarely see the sun. That’s a huge amount of capital. So what does not grow in Indonesia. What we don’t have in Indonesia. Only our ability to compete is missing, for what reason? Because our mindset to work is not good. The way we respond, or how we interpret that we want to work, is the one that makes a lot of mistakes,” he explained.

“We are working now, many of which are impromptu, slack, and follow-up. However, our abilities are not there. The skill is something we can make, we can think about, we can put it out. So until the apocalypse it will not be successful. God has already determined our life, what do you want? Just live it according to our field, “he added.

The founder of the Trisurya Company said that he entered the import-export business when he saw a monopoly on the stock of goods and prices in stalls and supermarkets in his village.

“Because I see, I was born in the village. Some people build stalls, others build kiosks, others build supermarkets. I felt someone had a monopoly, so I went into business overseas. At that time in 93, I exported tables and chairs to the Netherlands,” said Surya—his nickname.

Over time, Surya’s export-import business is not only to the Netherlands, but also to the Middle East, East Asia, Southeast Asia and others with the number of transactions reaching billions of rupiah per month.

“I entered the Middle East in 2008, to Asia, China, Vietnam and others in 2010. Every month I make billions of transactions,” said Surya.

According to him, competing in the business world lies in pampering customers. That is giving customers what they want.

“We compete on how to pamper customers. Simply put, give people what they want. If they want crackers, don’t give them bread. Even though bread is better than crackers. But at that time, maybe he wanted to make rujak, wanted beberok (a typical Lombok dish made from fresh eggplant and long beans with spicy tomato sauce. Sometimes added with crackers as a complement). Dipping bread is not good,” said Surya giving an example.

Despite his success, Surya still has a low profile. Even the owner of Mandalika Wholesale did not want to be exposed by any media beforehand. The most important thing for him is to build himself, his family, the community, especially in Lombok.

“I don’t want to be exposed. I also feel that many people know me. Even if it’s 2.3 people. I don’t need that. What I need is how then we can build ourselves, our families, the community, especially in Lombok,” he hoped.

At the end of the interview, Surya advised that business should prioritize the best service, because the results will be in accordance with these actions.

“Don’t think about how much money we make, but think how good we can do. Then the results will never lie,” he said. (UJ/LI)
